If we have faith that God looked down at an imperfect world full of imperfect people and sent His own son to pay the price for our sin, we should be changed. We should be loving others in response to His love. And if not, if we aren’t changed, if we aren’t showing love, if we are just resting our laurels on the fact that we “accepted Jesus” when we were five, have we really been changed and do we seriously believe that Jesus came down to Earth and changed everything?

14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? 15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? 17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. James 2:14-17

Thanks mom

I want to write a thank you note today to the best mom in the world.

Dear mom,

The best is an overused phrase these days. You can hardly walk down main street without hearing someone say that Downtown Deli has the “best” subs or that they got the “best” parking spot. But when I say that you are the best mom in the world, I’m not just making an outlandish claim. You literally are the best mom in the world. If I were to make such a statement and not offer any evidence for why I think that, I’d be just as bad as all the other people saying crazy things like how they’ve got the best I-ball team or even that they have the best mom in the world. So here’s the hard empirical data based on 18 years of research.

  • You are the most loving and compassionate person in the world
  • You are significantly more encouraging than any other person on this planet
  • Your cooking is second-to-none
  • You are loved more by your spouse and children than any other mother is loved by their spouse and children
  • You love God and love people better than everyone else
  • You married the best dad in the world

This proves it. You really are the best. And I just want to say thank you for who you are and what you do and for being my biggest advocate since the day I was born.

Your son,

P.S. Happy birthday
